I never said anything about multiclassing in order to be a better X, but that each class has a developed identity by at most 3rd level due to front-loading. Some are good to go from level 1, others need level 3.

Wizard 2 gets you Arcane Recovery as well as the School feature, most notably the Divination Wizard's Portent which is one of the most ridiculous abilities in the game.
